This gorgeous women attire has its roots in Punjab, India and so it is also referred to as ‘Punjabi suit’. A good salwar is creased and the more the creases, the prettier it looks. Materials like georgette, silk, crepe, synthetic or mix fabrics are not liked as they all would make you feel humid.

The salwar is tied to the waist with a drawstring. With the changing fashion trends, the salwar is designed to be broad, loose or narrow. Some other variations are churidhar kurta, patiala salwar or designer salwar kameez.

An Indian salwar kameez might come with thread embroidery, bandhej work, badla work, or phulkari patterns. These suits can be either ready-to-wear or custom-made. Nowadays semi-sewn suits are also readily available with patterns like readymade salwar kameezes, yet can give the look of a custom-made dress.
